By far the worst had to be those faux guitarists with instrument overkill (four electric guitars and two bass) who sang some obscure 80's Malay rock ballad, like those that are sometimes inflicted on unsuspecting shoppers in Giant or Tesco. But the lead vocalist was so shrieky every three seconds his voice would go wildly off-key, to general hilarity amongst the audience. And the song itself was so tedious, so plodding, so completely lacking in melody, I couldn't stand it after 2 minutes and left. And even after that they still played it for another excruciating quarter of an hour, I wonder if the teachers weren't permanently scarred by that horrendous ordeal. Later, Joshua said that the song was actually talking about --wait for it-- A WEDDING. *flails* Like, a reality more contrary to this can't be actualized by even the most incompetent politician. To be honest, it sounded way more like a FUNERAL, what with their wailing and preponderance towards amping up the bass; it was so lugubriously loud my eyeballs were vibrating in their sockets.
=_=
Well, in other news,
The malay girl dancers weren't bad. Their movements feminine and graceful; a lilt of the hand and tweak of the hips; t'was an entertaining dance. A certain section of the Malay tarian had the soundtrack chanting :"Hai gui, hai gui, hai gui..." incessantly, complete with thumping drums and a very tribal vibe, which felt rather incongruous compared to the other parts of the dance. And just so you know, "hai gui" means sea turtles (Aye, sea turtles!XD) so it wasn't much of a stretch to imagine the cannibals from POTC prancing round a huge cauldron having those briny reptiles for dinner.
Josephine and Vivian didn't do so well, poor things. Their confidence was rather sapped by the crappy sound and tech crew in the beginning of the song, when it went off to a bad start with malfunctioning mikes. Other acts were not spared; Eric's B-Boy performance was marred somewhat by the whimpering BG music, which sounded as though it was streaming directly from someone's 3G phone, it was so faint.
Despite its compromising title, the Wushu/Modern Dance Fusion went off without a hitch. The backflips and team-coordinated jumps were impressive, especially at the end. They did this second-last, so it would've been a good wrap up for the morning if not for those damned Muse wannabes caterwauling in the tail end of the program.(see first paragraph) -_-
Sigh...Without mom around, I forgot about getting something for my teachers which resulted in a morose yet fleeting feeling of guilt. xP Came to see Jo's performance; too bad they didn't do as well as they should've. I was planning to spend my time with a certain someone, or at least a few certain someones, but I hardly got to see them after we split to watch the performances.
Overall, a mediocre morning at best. *sigh*
